Pat on the Issues: Traffic
Traffic is too heavy here in District 8. We all know it. We all suffer. The congestion, especially getting into and out of the Evergreen area, is dragging down our quality of life. Every council decision affecting our area must first consider the effect on traffic.
I know this: we cannot afford more residential development unless, and until, the traffic problems are resolved. Those who stand to gain the most from developing open space in our District must be required first to contribute to the solution.
And, as your representative on the council, I will make sure that our biggest traffic problems are the first to be addressed. I will listen to you and clearly prioritize the traffic situations which are in greatest need of attention. As I see it now, those are, in no particular order:
- The Capitol Expressway corridor
- The 101/Capitol/Yerba Buena interchange
- Traffic calming around all of our schools
This is a great place to live and raise a family. But we must remain protective of the quality of life we enjoy. We cannot allow it to be eroded when there are actions we can take to preserve it.
